Accomplishment. Such a satisfying feeling.
We weren’t planning on doing yardwork this weekend, but we decided to take advantage of bulk trash pick-up today (only happens quarterly in Ahwatukee). Plus it was just plain gorgeous weather for working outside. We uprooted 2 trees, 2 tree stumps, and pulled out a lot of dead stuff. It doesn’t look like we lost too much from the frost. Our three Ficus trees and our monster tree that looks dead in the front yard all have green under their bark, when you scratch them! They’re alive!
We’ve been slowly tearing down the jungle that was our backyard — the previous owners had gone a little overboard planting trees before they sold the place. They planted a couple ornamental crab apple looking trees that just crapped all over my yard, which made mowing the lawn a total pain in the ass. They also planted some tropical asian trees that are basically useless to me since I have no idea how to cook with any of them. We also pulled out the two baby citrus trees in the front yard that just looked random and dying anyway. We still have two mature grapefruit trees in the sideyard, 2 lime trees in the back, and a Valencia orange tree in the rocks out front. We’re not hurting for citrus.
Originally, I felt bad undoing all of someone’s previous labor. Now, after two years, it’s time to make the yard my own. To me that means simple, easy to manage, and orderly.
Now we only have one stump left to uproot. Tony says he needs to bring in reinforcement for this one:
