Boy am I excited to tell you about Zaycon Foods and their upcoming chicken sales event!  If you have the freezer space, or you know someone that you can split a case with, this is an absolutely amazing deal!

Right now, you can sign up to get a 40-lb case of all natural, preservative-free, FRESH (never frozen), boneless, skinless chicken breasts for the grand low price of…

$59.60 (plus tax), or 1.49/lb!!

Can you believe it? I almost can’t!

Plus, there is a giveaway involved, with not one, but TWO winners, so read on!

My Food Journey: From Rock-Bottom Prices to Wholesome Food

The thing is, in the past I was only concerned about “getting the best deal.” Without concern for where the food came from, or how it was handled. I think many families are in the same boat, just trying to stretch every dollar to feed & support their families. As a result, I would stock up on chicken breast whenever it went on sale (my rock bottom price was $1.69/lb – whenever it hit this price at Fry’s or Sprouts, I would stock my deep freezer.) The problem is, that most of the time it had been previously frozen, then thawed during delivery, and then I would stick it back in the freezer. I know, I know, I’m not supposed to do this…but I just kept telling myself that I haven’t gotten sick yet.

Lately I’ve become hyper aware of all the preservatives, additives, water, and sodium injected into our meat. (Side note: I’m a chemical engineer, and I actually dated someone who worked at a big name chicken factory once.  His roommate’s intern project was to figure out how to inject as much water as possible into their chicken!) So really, most people don’t even know that even at those “rock bottom” prices, we’re overpaying because we end up paying for up to 15% salty water!! All that salt is NOT healthy.

Now that I’m in the unique situation where I can actually afford to pay a higher price for my food, and I have a place to store it, I felt like I was ready to start eating more wholesome, preservative-free food.  So I made it a 2011 resolution to start buying our food directly from the source (even if it cost 2x my current food budget). I feel like Tony’s and my moods are SO dependent on the food we eat (when we eat crap, we feel like crap!), so we need to make better food choices a higher priority.

Since 90% of our meat that we eat is chicken (no red meat lovers in this house!), I wanted to start there. I had just barely begun researching local chicken farmers, when I happened across Zaycon Foods and their direct farm-to-consumer sales approach.

Zaycon Foods: Fresh Meat at Wholesale Prices

Zaycon Foods is a privately owned company based in Washington state.  It was founded in 2009 to bring fresh meat and other products to consumers at wholesale prices.  With their extensive experience in sales, business management and the grocery industry they have streamlined their consumer buying process to get customers the best value.  Here’s how (from their website):

  1. COMBINED BUYING POWER – We combine the buying power of many families together, enabling us to negotiate huge savings on food purchases for your family
  2. DIRECT FARM-TO-CONSUMER – We bring products direct from the farm / processor (or as nearly as direct as possible). The products are as fresh as if you had your own farm, but without all the chores
  3. SOLD BY THE CASE – We sell food products only by the case. No extra costs for handling. And no more empty shelves in your pantry
  4. SELECT PRODUCTS – We sell only what we eat ourselves—high quality, healthy food. Our focus is on a select number of commonly consumed food items such as fresh meats like chicken, beef, turkey, pork and fish
  5. SALES EVENT MODEL – Our unique sales event approach turns traditional food purchasing on its ear. Convenient, quick, organized—about 2 minutes and you never even need to get out of your car

I’m still amazed that Zaycon’s chicken is fresh, NOT frozen, 100% natural chicken with no added hormones, additives or artificial ingredients, and LOW COST (cheaper than my grocery store ROCK BOTTOM price!). Amazing!

Now, I will be receiving some Zaycon chicken breasts to try next week, and once I do, I’ll post a thorough review. But judging from the rave reviews I’ve been reading from other happy customers in the Pacific Northwest, I expect nothing but good things!

How to Order Your Case of Chicken:

You can go HERE to register with Zaycon Foods and place an order and pay by January 15th.  When you register, you just need to provide your basic information, the number of cases you want (there is no limit!), and the sales event location. Each case has 4 bags of chicken breasts (roughly 10 lbs each), which are sealed in a larger bag.

Here are the pick up locations and times: (maps and more specifics on their site)

Victory Tabernacle Pentacostal Church
Saturday, January 22, 2011
3:00 pm – 7:00 pm
339 S. Lindsay Rd (corner of Lindsay & Mesquite) (near Lindsay & Elliot)
Gilbert, AZ 85296

Roman Catholic Parish of Saint Charles Borromeo
Saturday, January 22, 2011
8:00 am – 12:00 pm
8615 West Peoria Ave
Peoria, AZ 85345

The pick up sounds simple and fast.  You don’t even have to get out of your car.  You drive up, give them your information, and they load up your chicken.  They will give you a reminder email beforehand and attempt to call you, if you don’t show up.  According to the website, all orders not picked up at the time of the scheduled delivery will only incur a simple $25 per case restocking/processing fee. Mark your calendars!

Zaycon has graciously offered to give away one 40-lb box of all natural chicken ($59.60 value) to TWO of my readers!! I certainly hope you are as excited about this as I am! Plus, you don’t have to be an Arizona resident to enter this giveaway. If you win, and you are unable to make it to Peoria or Gilbert for a pick-up, Zaycon will give you a $35 gift card to your favorite grocery store! How cool is that?

(Also, if you win and have already paid for a box, Zaycon said they will give you your money back or you can find a home for some extra chicken.)

To Enter: Just leave a comment telling us what you plan on doing with 40 lbs of fresh chicken! I’m going to grill some immediately, then shred and chop most of it all and freeze in perfect Tony & Heather portions for quick and easy meals (i.e. stir fries, casseroles, pot pies, curry, and grilled for salads). We got a new food saver for Christmas which will be PERFECT for prepping/freezing the chicken!!

This giveaway ends Wednesday, January 12th at 10pm AZ time. I will pick the winner using random.org and contact the winner via email, so make sure to leave an email that I can contact you at! If the winner does not respond within 24 hours, I will choose another winner.

Please — Spread the Word!!

Also, PLEASE PLEASE spread the word. Tell your friends, family, and co-workers about Zaycon. They rely solely on word of mouth. I talked with the owner of Zaycon Foods today, JC Conrad, and he told me that their initial plan is to have a sales event every 6 months. If there is enough positive feedback during this first year, they plan on increasing the frequency to quarterly, even monthly. If enough positive feedback is generated in Arizona overall, they will start selling their other fresh meat products here, including 93/7 super lean beef at a crazy low price of $2.45/lb!! So show them your appreciation, and let them know you want Zaycon to keep coming back to AZ!!

Disclaimer: As I mentioned, I will be given chicken breasts to try from Zaycon Foods, and I plan on sharing with you my normal, 100% honest review.  I will also receive a small referral credit for each purchase you make using my link. While I truly appreciate these bonuses (monetizing the blog is another of my 2011 resolutions!!), this does not change the fact that I believe in the product, and I wouldn’t promote it if I didn’t think this was an amazing deal for everyone!! Let’s pass the word on, so we can continue to enjoy high-quality, healthy food products at prices we can all afford. <3

40 lbs. of nice healthy chicken breasts would go so far for my family. It’s just the 2 of us, so I would definitely share it with my parents who also have a chest freezer. Portioning will be key. Planning ahead makes all the difference. A few of our favorites are chicken chile verde and any kind of healthy stir fry. Great giveaway! Thanks for offering it!

If I win 40 lb of chicken…. hum… I will use some, and leave some in fridge ( I love fresh chicken) for dinners, and put rest of them in freezer. I recently cleaned my freezer, so I should have enough space. But Dallen eats 3-4 people portion, so 40 lb will be gone very soon. I got this Korean BBQ marinate sauce that I am so in love with, so I will marinate them and BBQ :)
