How many people follow the “If it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown, flush it down” philosophy?

Personally, I wouldn’t do this for the ick factor, and luckily for me, Tony wasn’t raised with this mantra either.  As for leaving toilet seats up — well, that’s another battle, which, unfortunately I have lost.

But are we losing out on valuable savings by not conserving our flushes?

Interestingly, Trent over at The Simple Dollar has done the calculations to show that the average person only saves $7.66 per year by letting their yellow mellow.  So the next time you find a surprise waiting for you in the toilet, and your partner tells you that they’re saving money by not flushing, you can say it’s not worth it, hon.

LOL….my husband and I have this debate! This is a habit I picked up in college- my roommates were adamant about it! After reading this though, I think I’ll be flushing more often. What is funny is that our water usage from last month to this month decreased by 4,000 gallons which you would think would be a significant difference in our water bill. Oh no, a difference of $.15!!
