I can’t believe all the documentation I need to file for in-state residency. I spend 25 of my 26 years in Arizona, and they make me jump through every hoop and hurdle known to man. Full copies of all bank statements in the past year (wow, talk about personal information!), the last two year’s taxes, vehicle registration, driver’s license, tuition receipts, yadda yadda yadda.

And the kicker is that if I didn’t wait until after my 26th birthday, I would have had to provide all my parent’s tax information too! Talk about crazy.

So I waited until after my birthday to avoid that hassle.

I did have to get the residency certification notarized, and I wasn’t sure where to go. As it turns out, I remembered reading a valuable post over at Jonathons blog, that Washington Mutual (my recently adopted bank) now offers free notary signatures! I called up my bank down the road, and sure enough, the notary public was available today. Simple and easy.

That’s $10 saved. Now if I didn’t have to pay to make copies of all 2000 pages of the bank statements. Grrrr.

i filled out all of the paperwork. it wasn’t too painful. john did it twice (once for his sister).

compass bank offers free notary service to its bank members, and charges $3 to anyone else (maximum by arizona law i believe).

the admins here at intel also are usually notaries, which is useful.

Ya, you’ve also been employed at the same place the past two years. It was a bit more difficult with me…getting copies of all my tuition receipts and scholarships that I’ve received was a pain in the butt, believe it or not. It’s definitely harder to prove financial independence/residency when you’re a student.

And notaries at intel would be useful. If I worked there ;)

yeah very true. i did a tiger woods fist pump when i realized i hadn’t had financial aid/scholarships in 2 years. that would have driven me insane.
