I just got back from a crazy long, crazy exhausting, crazy awesome weekend at Zion. I know what you must be thinking. Didn’t she just go there? YES, I did. And I would go back every weekend if I could! So check out my itinerary for the past weekend and tell me it wasn’t a bit hectic:

Fri evening/Sat morning:
6:00pm — Leave Phx 2 hrs late, after Jacob neglects to pack
6:30pm — Get stuck in an hour of holiday/major accident stop-and-go traffic on I-17
9pm — Arrive in Camp Verde, eat @ Subway, say hi to folks & pick up grill
3:15am(4:15 Utah time)– Arrive at Zion visitor center, get in line at backcountry office
7:00am — Backcountry office opens, we buy our permit and go crash at a campsite
7:30am-11am — Zzzzzzzz.

11am — Hiked the Watchman trail
2pmish — Get back to campsite, play in the Virgin River
3pm — Head to Oscar’s for some tasty mahi mahi tacos
5pmish — Go rent gear from Zion Adventure Company
6pmish — Go see Weeping Rock, and hike the Hidden Canyon Trail
9pmish — Moonlight hike along the Pa’rus Trail back to camp
10pmish — Grill some tasty steak & chicken, drink some Cube wine
midnight-1amish — pass out

6am — slept in, got a late start packing, and with a bunch of newbie backpackers, it took a LONG time to pack our backpacks and break down camp
11:00am — begin the 1.5 hr drive to the Narrows trailhead (Chamberlain Ranch)
12:30pm — Start hiking the Narrows trail
2pmish — get caught in a major lightning/thunder/hail storm, wait it out under a boulder
3pmish — start hiking again once the rain stops & there’s no sign of flash flood
9pmish — due to late start, don’t make it to assigned campsite #10 before dark, so crash at site #2

Monday/Tuesday morning:
7am — sunrise, hit the trail again
5pm — reach the end of the trail (Temple of Sinewava)
6pmish — get back to Visitor Center
7pmish — Mark and Jacob begin the 3 hour round-trip drive to go pick up Mark’s car at the beginning of the trailhead while we take back the gear
10pmish — Start the long drive home.
6am — Reach Phx. Get a couple hours sleep before going to school/work.

How’s that for a jam-packed weekend? I’ll talk more about the Narrows, and why it was such an awesome hike. A good time was definitely had by all. And I really like my pack — it feels great, even when loaded with 30 some odd lbs of stuff!
