I was saved on my Zion trip by a random stranger who passed by our campsite and offered us several strips of duct tape, after inquiring if we had any (what, a group of entirely engineers and NO duct tape?!?!?). Duct tape is awesome for blisters or cuts from obnoxious pinky toe nails digging into the sides of your other toes. And best of all, it’s waterproof, so it can withstand hours of trudging through water. I MUST invest in a roll.

That brings me to my list of hiking essentials that I need to purchase before my next trip:

- Duct tape
- Sportshield Roll-on (prevents chafing)
- Matches
- Biodegradable soap
- Travel size stuff (i.e. deoderant, toothbrush, toothpaste)
