Things like this ALWAYS happen to me. I was just downloading all the most recent pics off my memory card, and I noticed that the picture size was incredibly small (20-80 KB). So then I started panicking, and went to check all my other pictures (from San Francisco, Philippines, etc), and found that sure enough most every picture was only 640 x 480 pixels!! I freaked, thinking it might have been how I downloaded them…but I went to my camera, and checked all the settings, and sure enough the automatic and manual modes had both been set to S (small) display at the lowest compression. For purposes of sending email attachments and shooting more images (like when you’re running out of space on your memory card). Somehow, when I was messing around with all the settings early on in my PI trip (like first day in the airport early on), I had changed the resolution without realizing it. That’s what you get when you buy a camera with more bells and whistles than you know how to control. I’m so stupid.

NO WONDER I never ran out of space when I was in the Philippines. I was taking pictures that didn’t even have resolution worthy enough to print a 4×6!!!! All those pictures of a once in a lifetime trip, essentially non-printable!!!!!!!!!! ACCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKK. I want to scream. I want to go back in time. Something. This sucks.

C, no wonder the pictures we printed in PI were all grainy! It wasn’t their printer! It was my resolution setting.

The only upside to this whole situation is that at such a ridiculously low resolution I was getting decent clarity, so I should get AWESOME pictures once I start shooting at the highest resolution (3264 x 2448 pixels).

I’m so upset, I don’t know how I’m going to sleep.

  1. Beleive me it is much better than deleting the code files just 3 hours before the pratical exam. Especially when one has worked his ass off for four days on it.

Did this happen to you V? And actually, I think my scenario is worse. In five years your final exam will be but a faint memory, a blip on the radar screen of life. In five years, I will still remember my PI trip, and when I do, probably get furious every time I think about how I screwed up my pictures. I can’t enlarge any of them like I had hoped! I guess that means I just have to go back there. ;)

  3. Oh Yeah,

I agree with you on that. Actually that happened to me in the training period of my job. Four months of rigorous training and harsh HR policies gave me and my friends sleepless nights in 2002. But surely those bad memories have faded.

I want somebody to go back to PI immediately and get me the dried mangoes, at least 40 pounds. I hate airline people for putting the weight limits on luggage.

I feel the same when I spoil the pictures while using my SD400. I am also unaware of several functions of that. Hope your friend has some of them in large format.

Yeah, and with as many features as the SD400 has, imagine how intimidating the S80 is! I am just barely getting a handle of how to take good, everyday shots in all sorts of lighting. I still have to learn about some of the more advanced features though. And I still haven’t taken videos, which are supposed to be awesome quality.

Hahaha, you aren’t the only one wanting more dried mangoes!!!

    that sucks!

bright side is there’s Friendster for pictures lol–but what’s the point of taking Boracay views etc. when you can’t get it developed!
